This car, a 1970 Mustang Mach 1 Sportsroof, started life just like any other car. It was manufactured on the 9th January 1970, 3 days ahead of the scheduled build date.
The colour was medium blue metallic paint with Clarion Knit/Corinthian Vinyl bucket seats. It had a 3.25 standard axle ratio and a 3-speed manual gearbox.
The dealer was Beasey Ford Co in Cincinnati Ohio. The car was ordered with the following optional extras.
- Three Speed Manual Transmission
- EX0X14 Belted Tires
- White Sidewall Tires
- AM/FM Radio
- Tinted Glass-Complete
At the beginning of the eighties Dana Davis, a dedicated Ford fan who had raced many a Ford Product, took the medium blue Ford Mustang and fitted it with a 429 Cobra-Jet big-block and run it in the Super Pro class.
In 1984 a Fireman from Indianapolis purchased the car. The medium blue colour scheme had now been replaced with a metallic tan with pearl and candy brown flash down the side of the car. He raced in the Indianapolis Raceway Park's ET Series and recorded a best time of 10.55 at 129.80mph.
To improve the elapsed times Steve put the Mustang on a strict diet. He replaced the hood and trunk with hardwood fibre glass as were the bumpers. All the glass was replaced with Plexiglas, not only did this improve the weight but also made it safer. Anything that wasn't needed that would make it go fast was discarded.
